The Story Behind Teofilo Coffee Company: Reviving Philippine Coffee One Cup at a Time

Every business has a beginning, but Teofilo Coffee Company was built with a purpose far greater than simply serving coffee.

Our mission is to reconnect people with the rich history, culture, and farmers behind Philippine coffee. While many people know coffee-producing countries like Colombia, Ethiopia, or Brazil, few realize that the Philippines has more than 280 years of coffee history and is one of the few countries in the world capable of growing all four commercially cultivated coffee species: Arabica, Robusta, Excelsa, and Liberica (Barako).

That story deserves to be shared.

My journey started long before Teofilo Coffee Company opened its doors. After years working as an automotive engineer, I began asking a simple question: Why doesn’t anyone know about Philippine coffee? That question led me to travel throughout the Philippines, meeting farmers, walking coffee farms, learning from producers, and witnessing both the incredible quality of the coffee and the challenges facing the industry.

Those experiences became the foundation of Teofilo Coffee Company.

Today, every coffee we source represents more than flavor. It represents generations of farming families, transparency throughout the supply chain, and a commitment to introducing the world to coffees that many people have never experienced before.

Whether you’re tasting Liberica (Barako) for the first time, discovering the fruit-forward character of Philippine Excelsa, or exploring our specialty Arabica and Robusta, our goal is to create an experience that helps people understand where their coffee comes from and why it matters.

Recently, I had the opportunity to share more of this journey in an interview with CanvasRebel. We discussed the challenges of building Teofilo Coffee Company, the mission behind preserving Philippine coffee, and the vision for bringing these remarkable coffees to more people around the world.
